ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL P.E.A.K. PRESENTATION
Renee A. Elliott, Intern Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce
On Wednesday, June 9th, the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce’s P.E.A.K. committee welcomed, “Who Trusts You? How to Build Trusting and Lasting Relationships.” This informative session was presented by Marie Cutlip, CPA and Jacci Adams, Networking Matchmaker. This duo, who typically presents as a trio, was missing partner Lynn Shepherd who was welcoming her grandchild into the world earlier that morning.
This informational seminar taught me; how to make my networking more effective, how to build trusting relationships with clients and customers, and the importance of online communication to earn trust among clients and customers. Marie Cutlip used a Native American talking stick and exercise to demonstrate the importance of listening. She demonstrated that the goals of listening are to enjoy, to obtain information, and to understand. Marie also pointed out that listening is the key to building trust, and that it is important to learn, to illustrate, to start with heart, to tune in, to show emotion, and to nurture those who you are building a relationship with.
Jacci Adams discussed the importance of networking and that it all begins with your attitude. She suggested that when attending a social or work-related event to not just attend, but to participate. Jacci suggested asking open-ended questions, and make sure that you follow up on any new networking relationship you engage in.
